Do's

 

Don'ts

Do limit the time that you sit, or sit and stand intermittently   Don't sit when you can stand
Do sit only in chairs that have backs and arms   Don't sit in chairs without back support
Do sit in a way that your buttocks are higher than your knees   Don't sit on bleachers or bar stools
Do drink plenty of water and eat fiber-rich foods   Don't use heat on the injured spine unless directed to do so by the Doctor
Do stand erect when coughing or sneezing   Don't try to "work it out" as exercise can increase pain and inflammation
Do stay out of the recliner   Don't twist at the waist
